Player Profile: Quentin Serron

A day after his birthday Quentin Serron and SIG Strasbourg have announced that they are parting ways.

With the addition of Gerry Blakes and Devonte Upson Strasbourg has acquired 2 new foreign players these past couple of days, putting them over the limit of 6 foreigners allowed. And so the club had to cut one of their import players. That import player turns out to be Serron as they have decided to terminate their contract, thus making him a Free-Agent.

We don’t know yet where Serron will be headed next but we’re certain that the strong defensive and efficient offensive Belgian Lion won’t have too many problems in finding a new team, whether it will be abroad or perhaps a return back home to Belgium.*

The 2015-’16 Belgian Player of the Year spent most of his career at the Belgian coast with Basketbalclub Oostende and competed in a total of 8 seasons in the Belgian EuroMillions Basketball League. In those 8 seasons with Oostende Serron played a total of 293 games (Belgian Regular Season, Belgian Playoffs & European competitions) and scored 1605 pts (5.5 ppg) shooting 59% on his 2s, 41% on his 3s and 74% on his FT’s. He also grabbed 649 rebs (2.2 rpg), dished out 376 asts (1.3 apg) and had 224 stls (0.8 spg).

After winning the Player of the Year award in Belgium Serron then ventured out to France as he spent 2 strong seasons with Gravelines (2016-’18), before joining Strasbourg. Despite a solid first season at Strasbourg Serron saw his minutes drop significantly in his second season down to 18.8 mpg as he competed in 35 games (French Regular Season & Champions League). In those 35 games Serron averaged 4.6 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 1.4 apg & 0.5 spg. Not exactly the most impressive numbers and so the decision from Strasbourg to let him go doesn’t come as that big of a surprise.

However, none of this changes the fact that Serron remains a very high quality player who always brings enormous intensity on the defensive end and is a smart and efficient player on the offensive end with a pretty deadly high-rising jumpshot to top off his overall skills. I’m sure the national team players from Lithuania and Denmark know exactly what I’m talking about.

In any case, wherever Serron might end up next, you can be sure that TIB will be right there watching and cheering him on.

Good luck Quentin!

  • at the time of writing his new team wasn’t known yet, but we can now announce that he is headed to Bilbao in the Spanish First Division and it is actually Serron and his management who have approached Strasbourg and asked to release him so he could join Bilbao.
