PLAYERS’ BLOG: HANS VANWIJN (Part 2)

In this TIB exclusive Players’ Blog Belgian Forward Hans Vanwijn will discuss his experiences throughout the season on a regular basis. This season is Vanwijn’s first season abroad as he plays for Dijon in the French first division.

What a nice start of the season!

I remember very well that when I took part in the Champions League Final 4 with Antwerp in 2019 people told me that this was more than likely a once in a lifetime event for me. I never dared to think that I would be part of the Champions League Final 8 in Athens barely one year later. Now I already have 2 bronze medals in my pocket and we’ve only lost 1 game this season against San Pablo Burgos, the team that would go on to win the Champions League!

Busy days

Currently we’re playing a game every 3 to 4 days. This weekend we travel to the Belgian border where we will compete against Gravelines. Normally this would be an opportunity to see part of my family again, but the current COVID-19 circumstances will make that impossible now. My father would have loved to attend a game this season but unfortunately he will have to wait a little while longer. Luckily they can follow a lot of games online.

Belgium

Despite our busy schedule I also try to catch a game of the Giants in the Eurocup every now and then. It’s too bad they haven’t been able to win a game just yet! We are currently closely monitoring the situation in Belgium as my girlfriend Jasmine is due to give birth there within a few weeks. So it could be that she will already return back to Belgium at the beginning of November to avoid any risks.

I will keep you guys posted.

– Hans Vanwijn.
